St John of God Geraldton celebrates 90 years of care
October 24, 2025Mercy Health has announced the appointment of Simon Craig as Executive Director, Transformation & Improvement, following the transition of Clinton Cummins to the role of Chief Executive Officer, Health Services, Mercy Health. In his new role, Simon will lead Mercy Health’s organisation-wide transformation and improvement portfolio, focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for patients, residents and communities.
Simon steps into the role from his position as Director of Improvement & Analytics at Mercy Health, having also held senior roles at the Department of Health and St Vincent’s Health Australia. This depth of health leadership is strengthened by his background in engineering and more than a decade at Toyota, followed by management consulting across a wide variety of industries including defence, banking and FMCG. Combined, these experiences give him a unique cross-sector perspective on strategy, transformation and organisational performance.
As Mercy Health maintains momentum through its transformation and improvement initiatives, Simon acknowledges the key to lasting success will be through its people, saying, “The process of transformation and improvement is more than system optimisation, it’s about an engaged and empowered workforce. The ace up our sleeve at Mercy Health is our people, who are driven first and foremost by a deep commitment to the those we serve. That’s why my leadership is about empowering those at the coalface of care — because they know what’s best for the people in their charge, and they’re the ones who can identify and deliver the improvements that matter most.”
Simon also reflected on how his leadership style connects to the spirit of Mercy Health’s founding story.
“Catherine McAuley began by asking a simple question: what does this community need that isn’t being provided and how do I service those needs? For me, Mercy’s modern leadership applies the same principle — recognising opportunities others might overlook and creating the conditions that deliver the greatest value. It’s a legacy of compassion and responsiveness that I’m proud to continue at Mercy Health.”
Mercy Health Group Chief Executive Officer, Angela Nolan welcomed the appointment.
“We’re delighted to have Simon stepping in to lead Transformation & Improvement at this pivotal time for Mercy Health. His cross-sector and consultancy background, combined with his proven leadership within health and deep appreciation of our valued workforce, finds him perfectly equipped to guide the organisation’s next phase of growth and innovation.”
