April 30, 2026Catholic Healthcare has welcomed Randwick City Council’s approval of its Maroubra precinct development application, marking a major milestone in the delivery of a premium, coastal connected community for seniors.
Situated within one of Sydney’s most sought-after coastal suburbs, the Maroubra development has been carefully designed to respond to its beachside setting through contemporary architecture, high-quality finishes and an open, welcoming streetscape.
Just 300 metres from the beach, the development will include enhanced pedestrian connections, revitalised landscaping, rooftop courtyard, and a café at the street front designed to enhance the public space and foster connections with the wider community.
The precinct aims to provide a premium living environment that meets the evolving needs and expectations of seniors.
The Maroubra project forms part of Catholic Healthcare’s growth strategy to invest over $600 million over the next five years to develop five additional innovative connected communities across New South Wales, with developments already underway in Wahroonga, Blacktown, Forbes and another planned for Lewisham.
Catholic Healthcare CEO Josh McFarlane said the DA approval was an important milestone.
“This is an important step forward for Catholic Healthcare and the Maroubra community. The approval allows us to progress a thoughtfully designed, high-quality coastal development that brings together retirement living, residential care, wellness and community spaces in one connected precinct,” said Mr McFarlane.
“It reflects our commitment to creating environments where older people can thrive and live with dignity, purpose and a strong sense of belonging”.
These precincts integrate retirement living, residential care, wellness and community services to support people as their needs change.
“Connected communities are much more than buildings. They are spaces that foster inclusion, wellbeing and connection, and ensure older people feel part of vibrant, supportive communities as their needs change.”
Located in Malabar Road, Maroubra, the approved development will provide 55 premium retirement living apartments and a 44-bed residential care home, which includes 4 care suites. The precinct will deliver care and services for seniors and will also feature community and wellness services, with shared spaces designed to foster connection, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging.
Catholic Healthcare believes this project will make a lasting and positive contribution to the local area, delivering contemporary accommodation, modern care options and welcoming community spaces in a premium coastal setting.
