December 17, 2025Scalabrini, one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit aged care and community services providers, has expanded its operations nationally through the acquisition of The Society of Saint Hilarion’s residential aged care and home care services in South Australia.
The move marks Scalabrini’s first presence outside New South Wales and will increase its residential aged care capacity by more than 25 percent and its home care services fivefold.
Scalabrini Chief Executive Officer Richard de Haast said the expansion reflects the organisation’s strong reputation for mission-led care and its commitment to serving migrant and multicultural communities.
“This is a defining moment for Scalabrini. We were approached by The Society of Saint Hilarion because of our clear and unwavering mission to support older adults, particularly those from migrant backgrounds, to live with dignity and belonging,” Mr de Haast said. “This move allows us to reach more people who have built their lives in this country far from their homeland but close to our hearts.”
He said the expansion builds on Scalabrini’s strong growth and its leadership in shaping the future of aged care.
“Over the past two years we have expanded our impact through Live Easy Home Care by Scalabrini and the launch of Live Easy Social, which is helping to address the growing loneliness epidemic in Australia,” Mr de Haast said. “This next step continues that momentum. It strengthens our reach, deepens our mission and brings Scalabrini’s model of culturally aware care to even more older Australians.”
Chair of The Society of Saint Hilarion, Rosemary Velardo, said “This is a positive milestone for the Society of Saint Hilarion it will continue our mission of compassionate, faith based aged care strongly into the future under an organisation that shares our values, deeply respects our history, and has longevity. The names of the Villa Saint Hilarion – Fulham and House of Saint Hilarion – Seaton will remain in place, this reflects Scalabrini’s respect for our heritage, identity, and long-standing connection to our fellow migrant and South Australian communities.”
The deal now awaits regulator approval as the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission transfers the approved provider status for the residential aged care facilities and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing transfers the approved provider status for the support at home operations.
Scalabrini will maintain a close relationship with The Society of Saint Hilarion, acknowledging its ongoing cultural and community contribution and will be financially supporting The Society’s annual Feast celebrations for the next decade.
“This expands the footprint and reach of the Scalabrini Congregation in South Australia and the move into aged care in South Australia will strengthen and diversify our ministry for migrants into the future,” Mr de Haast said.
