September 8, 2023Catholic Health Australia has today officially announced its endorsement of the Voice to Parliament.
The peak body representing Catholic health and aged care providers believes the Voice will provide a historic opportunity to bring justice and healing and help close the gap on Aboriginal health outcomes.
“Supporting the Voice to Parliament aligns with the shared goals and vision underpinning Catholic health and aged care services,” said Board Chair John Watkins AM.
“The story of the Good Samaritan reminds us to show love and respect, reach out with compassion, and hear all voices, especially those that have historically been unheard.
“The Voice provides a chance to listen and ultimately improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including in health, a vital component of closing the gap.
“We also welcome the opportunity to provide constitutional recognition of First Nations Peoples who have lived in Australia for thousands of years.
“We recognise that while CHA stands firm in its commitment to the Voice, individuals within our expansive network – including employees, patients, residents, and other stakeholders – may have contrasting views.
“We encourage everyone to engage with the referendum process respectfully and thoughtfully and with genuine concern to bring justice and healing to First Nations Peoples.”
