It is with profound sadness that we advise of the passing of Reverend Emeritus Associate Professor Cormac Nagle OFM.
Fr Cormac was a highly respected colleague and friend to many of us in the Catholic health and aged care sectors. He will be remembered as an outstanding theologian and ethicist, a valued supporter and most importantly a kind and gentle man.
Fr Cormac was unwavering in his commitment to Mercy Health and to advancing the healing ministry of Christ, especially in relation to women’s and children’s health.
A very humble, yet highly accomplished individual, Fr Cormac’s qualifications are not only impressive but have seen him travel the globe, giving him a truly international perspective. They include a Doctorate in Canon Law from Rome, a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Moral Theology: Catholic University of America, Washington DC, and certification as a Worldwide Lecturer for the Franciscan Order. Fr Cormac also held a degree in Sabbatical Studies in Bioethics, Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California.
In 2015 he was the recipient of CHA’s Maria Cunningham Lifetime Contribution Award in recognition of his tireless efforts, the many years of countless contributions to Catholic health and pastoral care, as well as the theological, educational, ethical and bioethical work he performed.
He was a great friend of Catholic Health Australia, lending his support to many of our mission initiatives, including the development and presentation of CHA’s Online Ethics Course.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Fr Cormac’s family and the Franciscan Friars.
