St John of Gold Health Care marks construction milestones for Perth hospitals

Australia’s second largest not for profit health care provider, St John of God Health Care, is marking major milestones in the construction of two new state-of-the-art hospitals in Perth as part of a broader commitment to transforming patient care and experiences, by expanding and enhancing Western Australians’ access to high quality private health care.

Significant progress has been made on both the new St John of God Midland Private Hospital, which recently reached its structural ‘topping out’ milestone, and the Orthonova Orthopaedic Hospital, where construction has officially commenced following a ceremonial
blessing and sod turning at the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Opening in August 2026, the new St John of God Midland Private Hospital will deliver expanded access to private health care in Perth’s eastern corridor. Located just two blocks from the current Midland Public and Private Hospital campus, the purpose-built facility will
include 123 inpatient beds, an ICU and coronary care unit, six operating theatres, day surgery, and the region’s first interventional cardiology services.

From mid-2026, the WA State Government will assume full use of the 60 private beds at the existing co-located campus, which will transition to a 367-bed public hospital. After this time, the new St John of God Midland Private Hospital will become the region’s primary site for private health care, ensuring continuity of care for private patients while helping to expand capacity in the public system.

As the population across Perth’s eastern corridor continues to grow, this transition reinforces our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of local communities by meeting rising demand and delivering high-quality, accessible care – now and into the
future.

Meanwhile in Murdoch, construction is underway at the Orthonova Orthopaedic Hospital, a joint initiative between St John of God Health Care and some of Perth’s leading orthopaedic surgeons.

Set to become WA’s newest centre of excellence in orthopaedic care, Orthonova will provide highly specialised, personalised treatment supported by the latest surgical technology and a strong focus on research, innovation, and clinical excellence. Both projects are being delivered in partnership with construction partner Built, with property group Hesperia also collaborating on Orthonova.
