CATHOLIC HEALTH WELCOMES REPORTING OF BOOSTER FIGURES AS COMMUNITY DEMANDS CLARITY AROUND LEVEL OF PROTECTIONS
January 13, 2022NEW DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY & MISSION AT CHA
January 28, 2022St John of God Health Care board member James McMahon has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to veterans and their families, and to the community.
Before joining SJGHC in 2017 Mr McMahon served in a number of public and private sector roles, including as Commissioner for the Western Australian Department of Corrective Services, Chief Operating Officer of Australian Capital Equity, and on the boards of the SAS Resources Trust Board, the Australian War Memorial Board, and the West Coast Eagles.
He is also an ambassador for The Fathering Project, which provides research and education programs that support and inspire fathers.
Prior to his corporate career, Mr McMahon saw more that 25 years’ military service, including roles as Special Air Service Regiment Commanding Officer and SAS Squadron Commander, where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Distinguished Service Medal for command and leadership in action in Timor-Leste, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
“I’ve been singled out, but ultimately there’s a whole lot of people out there who do a lot of good work who are never recognised,” Mr McMahon says of his latest award.
“On days like Australia Day we should recognise that, because it really makes this country what it is.”
McMahon says service, courage, duty, and fellowship are values that guided him during his Australian Defence Force career, and they are values he sees reflected in the mission of St John of God Health Care.
“The ethos I see, particularly reinforced in this pandemic, in the front-line caregivers is the same as those I served with: committed, courageous, competent, compassionate, humble,” he says.
