CATHOLICS WELCOME MIGRATION LEVEL INCREASE TO HELP WORKFORCE CRISIS
September 2, 2022STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II
September 9, 2022Perth’s St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital glowed yellow this week in recognition of R U OK? Day.
Today (Thursday, September 8), is a national day of action when Australians are reminded that every day is the day to ask a friend, family member or colleague “are you OK?”, and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.
The point is that you don’t need to be an expert to reach out, just a good friend and a great listener.
As part of its R U OK? Day activities, St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety Team hosted a lunch for caregivers to connect, reflect and learn about the prevalence of mental illness in Australia and the support services available.
Night-shift caregivers were treated to “self-care goodie bags”, that included chocolate, tea and coffee, a conversation starter kit, and a variety of other wellness resources.
St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital chief executive officer Vanessa Unwin said the day served as a timely reminder to engage, listen and spend time with loved ones.
“After the challenges of the past two years, it’s been particularly special to enjoy lunch together and reflect on the importance of checking in,” she said.
“While asking, ‘Are you ok?’, may seem like a small act, it can lead to a life-changing conversation.”
“Our caregivers are renowned for their compassion and empathy, and today was no
