Aged Care: Individual Needs Must Be at the Heart of Change

Catholic Health Australia (CHA) stands with the community, saddened by the failure to provide person-centred care in cases aired on ABC’s Four Corners program this evening.

Suzanne Greenwood, CEO of CHA, reaffirmed support for the Royal Commission into aged care that must be taken as an opportunity to shape how we, as a community, care for our elderly and most vulnerable.

“The staff and families who have spoken out have demonstrated great courage and can hopefully take some level of comfort knowing that their actions will lead to improved models of care and appropriate government support.

“We must respond in innovative ways to address the scourge of loneliness, experienced by loved ones in aged care, and its impact on physical and emotional wellbeing.

“Everyday, older Australians experience tremendous compassionate and innovative ‘care’ in homes and aged care facilities and hopefully the Royal Commission will make this a reality for all.
