October 4, 2022Aged care providers received a much-needed boost with the Federal Government announcing an extension of COVID19 funding.
This $1.4 billion investment extends measures in place that were due to expire on 30 September to 31 December 2022 with the lion’s share supporting aged care providers to protect our clients, with
- more than $840 million in additional funding for the Aged Care Support Program, including $35 million for ongoing on-site PCR testing in aged care
- over $115 million for the supply of rapid antigen tests to service providers and care recipients in high-risk settings including residential aged care facilities.
The funding represents a real partnership between the Government and providers to enable clients to see their family and friends, and interact in their communities, with protection from COVID19. Access to on-site PCRs and additional rapid antigen tests allow more frequent much needed contact with loved ones.
This announcement comes ahead of Parliament considering the Aged Care Amendment (Implementing Care Reform) Bill 2022 next week. This Bill enacts the Government’s election commitments in aged care including mandating 24/7 Registered Nurse coverage in residential aged care.
CHA has welcomed the investment.
CHA and its members are working proactively with the Government to support implementation of reforms to deliver best outcomes for clients while supporting provider sustainability.
Following CHAs attendance at the Jobs and Skills Summit we continue to push for action to improve the aged care workforce including sensible migration changes and improved skill pathways.
