Pandemic babies about to start school
January 17, 2025A new year brought joy to Mercy Hospital for Women as its first baby of 2025 was welcomed into the world.
Miraya, a healthy baby girl, was born to proud parents Apoorva Mali, and Vivek Menon, at 1:29am on 1 January 2025. Miraya is not just one of the first Victorian babies born this year, but one of the first of the new Generation-Beta babies who will be born between 2025 and 2039.
First time parents Mr Menon and Ms Mali said they were excited to welcome their daughter into the world and that it was special that she marked the start of a new generation.
“It was overwhelming, exciting, scary, all at once,” said Ms Mali.
“Parenthood is an on top of the world feeling, and it’s exciting that my daughter is the start of a new generation,” Mr Menon.
Later that day, Miraya received a special visit from Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas, who stopped by to congratulate the new parents.
“Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s greatest joys and it’s a privilege to see so many families growing and thriving here in Victoria” Minister Thomas said.
As the first birth of the year at Mercy Hospital for Women, Miraya’s arrival holds special significance for the hospital staff and the community.
