Carol celebrates almost half a century of volunteering
May 23, 2024Mercy Place Montrose resident Dale Macalister (pictured above) has experienced the joyride of his life when he took to the skies in a de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth warplane thanks to generous support from the Mercy Health Foundation.
As the son of a World War II United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot, Dale spent his childhood dreaming of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a pilot. Unfortunately, Dale was never able to fly a plane after he was diagnosed with dyslexia.
After hearing Dale’s story, Mercy Place Montrose Lifestyle Coordinator, Dee Halligan, made it her mission to make Dale’s dream a reality.
In the hands of Tiger Moth Joy Flights pilot Damian Nott, Dale set off into the air, soaring above family and friends as they watched from the tarmac at Lilydale Airport.
“It was an amazing opportunity to accomplish a lifelong dream of mine,” Dale said.
This experience would not have been possible without the Mercy Health Foundation Imagine Fund’s philanthropic support.
