Mercy Health in Albury has hosted their annual Palliative Care Masterclass, where local health professionals were presented with the essential skills to address the region’s growing demand for palliative care services.
The masterclass featured five expert speakers who shared insights on key topics, such as cultural sensitivity in palliative care and best practices for supporting patients with motor neuron disease (MND), and prostate and ovarian cancers.
A panel of local nursing, medical, and allied health specialists also discussed the palliative care services provided by Mercy Health Albury, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the multidisciplinary approaches that are essential in palliative care.
Nicole Barr, Clinical Nurse Educator at Mercy Health Albury and Founder of the masterclass, emphasised the significance of the event to the local community.
“At Mercy Health Albury we work to ensure that each person experiences the best quality of life possible – physically, personally, socially and spiritually,” said Mrs Barr.
“The Palliative Care Masterclass was about more than just upskilling, it was about harnessing our community of health professionals and providing an opportunity to collaborate and establish primary engagement and networking opportunities within palliative care across our region.”
