National strategy to transform health and medical research
May 23, 2024Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT has taken a significant stride in its commitment to social justice and environmental sustainability with the launch of its first Action Plan, Living Care: Plan for People and Planet 2024-2027.
This strategic document encompasses a holistic approach to enhancing Southern Cross Care’s operations, fostering community engagement across office environments, aged care homes, and retirement communities, and improving the sustainability of service vehicles.
The plan highlights the organisation’s dedication to listening and adapting while ensuring that every voice is heard and every action counts.
Structured into seven pillars, the plan reflects a goal inspired by Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si’, on caring for our common home.
Monique Reynolds, CEO of Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT said the organisation’s mission is deeply intertwined with the core principles of social justice and environmental stewardship.
“We see the Living Care Action Plan as a means to concentrate and amplify our ongoing commitments to environmental sustainability, social equity, and the wellbeing of our staff, residents, and clients,” she said.
The Action Plan aligns with several key frameworks and policies, including:
- The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- SCC’s Strategic Plan 2021-2024
- Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-2025
- Modern Slavery Action Plan
- Investment Policy
- Workforce Strategy
These alignments underscore our dedication to a future where care for the environment and social responsibility are not just aspirations but tangible realities integrated into every aspect of our services. Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT commits to transparent practices that reflect our values in every interaction – whether it’s in management decisions, facility operations, or community initiatives.
We’re committed to transparency and will publicly report progress annually, reflecting a growing ambition and measuring the impact of the Living Care Action Plan.
“Transparency and accountability are important to us, so we will be publicly reporting our progress each year,” Ms Reynolds said.
The first progress report, marking the milestones achieved and outlining the path forward, will be released in 2025 which demonstrates Southern Cross Care’s resolve to not only set but continually elevate benchmarks, showcasing an evolving commitment to the welfare of our planet and society.
The detailed plan is available on the Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT website, inviting all stakeholders to engage with and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world.’
