Full steam ahead on the St Vincent’s Express
March 26, 2026This Holy Week, Catholic Health Australia reflects on the Easter story that plays a central role in our mission and Catholic identity.
It begins with Palm Sunday. A moment of welcome, of open arms, of a community gathering around one who came to serve rather than to be served. We see that same spirit at reception desks, hospital wards, aged care homes, where each person is received with dignity and warmth.
On Holy Thursday, Jesus kneels and washes the feet of those in his care, an act of radical humility, of leadership through service. It is a witness embodied each day by nurses, carers, and clinicians.
Good Friday confronts us with sacrifice. With suffering that is human, witnessed, and never turned away from. Those who work in the Catholic health and aged care sector across our many member organisations know this terrain intimately. They share in the pain of those whom they care for. They accompany patients and residents at the end of life. They remain present, even in the hardest moments.
And then Easter Sunday, He is risen. In the light of the Resurrection, we are reminded that hope endures, that every act of care carries the possibility of renewal.
For those continuing to care for people over this Easter period, thank you from Catholic Health Australia.
