Launched at the 2015 Catholic Health Australia National Conference, together with The Role of Mission Leaders in Catholic Health and Aged Care, as well as Strengthening our Catholic Identity and Mission, Formation for Mission has been developed at the request of the Taskforce leading CHA’s Pathway’s Project, mandated by the members to facilitate a collaborative approach to leader formation.
Materials presented in this resource are intended to assist in the orientation and ongoing development of those new to leadership and governance roles in Catholic health and aged care. The particular focus is on discussing formation needs with newly appointed trustees, board members and senior executives.
The resource includes four sections: Section One addresses the question: what is formation in Catholic health and aged care?; Section Two suggests an approach to the conversations about formation with new people which can lead to a planned approach going forward; Section Three contains a suggested framework for reflecting on formation needs, namely CHA’s leadership profile, Continuing the Mission – Expectations of Trustees, Board Directors and Executives, and; Section Four sets out benchmark expectations in terms of time commitments for trustees, board members and senior executives. It also outlines focus areas for formation sessions, programs that are currently available (or in the planning process) and enabling processes.
